I'll give the credit where credit is absolutely due, and AZ Stars Fitz nailed this one.
Breaking the sound barrier

I am all for people opposing something they may not like, but in this case they fail in one very important aspect. When you launch a group in opposition of something, you oftentimes are going to energize the other side. In this case, we're talking about the debate over basing the F-35 fighters at the Tucson International Airport (there was already had a group supporting it at www.tucsonf35.com and now there is a group opposed, linked above). This is also happening with the recall - there is now an anti-recall group sending out press releases and such . The problem with both of these opposition groups is that they are going to provide a boost to the support groups. In the case of the F-35, the support group was already growing, but like with any movement sometimes it's tough to really get fired up unless you have a visible enemy. Now they have one, whereas if they didn't exist there wouldn't be anything tangible for support groups (and shows like mine, to be fair) to point to. In the case of the recall campaign, forming an anti-group was a massive error. The recall has gotten off to a somewhat shaky start - with misinformation in the media, the change in tone from the Mayor, and no real compelling story line, I was beginning to wonder if they could get the signatures. Not anymore. This isn't like Prop 200. Claiming it's expensive this time around isn't going to fly since we are not talking about taxes and a signature is just that a signature, not a vote. The only effect this anto-recall group will have is getting the recall movement more press and exposure.
Now I support both the recall and the F-35's coming to Tucson. The F-35 is something Tucson can be proud of and will provide much needed revenue. The recall effort is a worthy cause as Walkup, Uhlich, and Romero have failed to lead this community. And while I admit it will cost some money, I believe the PR campaign getting the word out to the public of the damage the city council has done to the city, even if they recall isn't itself successful, is worth every penny.

UofA Katie: Find out what she learned in college this week at 8am

Katie's FACEBOOK
Since I had not yet offered a formal introduction to Katie I figured now was a good time.
Katie had come in studio quite a few months ago to promote the UofA Young Republicans. At that time both Producer Andrew and I were taken aback by how comfortable Katie was behind the mic. If you have never been on the radio in a studio live before it can be a bit nerve wracking. Plus, it's one thing to be interviewed - it's something else to actually be promoting and discussing an issue. Katie did both so well that I instantly realized we had an opportunity to provide something that I had never heard before. Thus "What I learned in College this Week" was born. Since then Katie has actually made my job easier. I now find myself most of the time not even needing to comment while Katie tells you what her professors had to say in her classes. The insight from someone actually going through our university system has been both funny, sad, and enlightening. And while I cringe at some of outrageous statements coming from her teachers every week, I am also encouraged that at least we know there are a few students out there that aren't falling for the indoctrination. The Young Republicans on campus are scarce, but they are there. If only we had more students willing to speak out and speak the truth when faced with the liberal indoctrination on a daily basis. Hear UofA Katie and what she learned this week every Friday at 8am.
I snagged these quotes from Katie's FACEBOOK page:
"Our tax dollars should be spent on weapons to destroy them, not lawyers to defend them!"
-Scott Brown
"If you are going through hell, keep going"
-Winston Churchill
"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"
-Ronald Reagan
"My common sense is what makes me intelligent"
-Bill O'Reilly
"Evil is to be conquered, not tolerated"
-Alfonzo Rachel
“Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.”
- Frederic Bastiat (1801–1850)
Andrews random video of the day: The final day of Superbowl commercial week - and I have to say I'm surprised at the lack of memorable Superbowl spots on YouTube! There are quite a few 'countdown' clips though - and I particularly enjoyed these from the 2007 game. Enjoy, have a great weekend, and Go Colts!

So how scared are they?
First we have Mayor Walkup suddenly sounding like a Republican during his State of the City address. Now we get this little gem from Karin Uhlich. Take particular note to the bold statement below.

- Karin’s Note: Working Towards Balance –
Dear Tucsonans,
On Monday I accepted the request to meet with the three spokespersons for the Recall Initiative. They presented their agenda: priorities for Mayor and Council action that they are now circulating to all of my colleagues.
Some of the items on their list have already been acted on by the Mayor and Council over the past year. We need help communicating that progress. Other items have been raised in the past and will be discussed at upcoming Mayor/Council meetings.
I will not make any policy decisions out of fear of the Recall threat. I also will not discount any good ideas brought forward by Recall leaders or others in Tucson. I will remain focused on serving the public and do my best to protect our community from the ill effects of divisiveness and distractions.
I have encouraged Recall leaders to share their priorities with the public so we can proceed together through a fair and open process. Many people are unifying now with a focus on reviving our local economy. The Presidents of the nine Chambers of Commerce in the region met recently to identify their top priorities for economic recovery and job creation. TREO’s economic blueprint integrates input from over 6,000 people across our valley. These urgent times demand action, so let’s select the best ideas and move together to get them done.
As hard as it has been, the Mayor and Council continues to balance the City budget by hearing from everyone and then making difficult decisions. I believe we have taken action to reduce harm and safeguard the future as best we can. I trust that our work to spark commerce and create jobs will be handled that way as well.
Sincerely,
Karin
So why would Karin bother with meeting with the recall leaders at all? If you really think she cares what they have to say you better get your head out of the sand and I have $20 you can give Rodney to help him explore. No, Karin is freaked that they actually will be successful in getting the required signatures. If she ends up adopting any of the ideas that the recall leaders present, I can almost guarantee it's out of fear. Not so much because she believe the recall will be successful, but because she knows that if they get the signatures it will mean she has to address the issues head on and launch a campaign to save her job. Thus hurting badly her chance at becoming mayor. If her and Walkup suddenly start making smart choices that are for the betterment of the business community, thus giving Steve K and Shirley Scott the needed support to change the status quo, than it's all good. I personally don't care how we get the proper change in Tucson and at whose hands, just that we get it.

Catalina bighorns are gone, but explanatory signs live on

We seriously have one of the worst papers I have ever seen. On occasion they do some decent reporting, but that shouldn't be something that only happens every once in a while. As someone who talks about current events on an almost daily basis, I can tell you that there isn't a lack of news out there. With the paper though, it just seems that they make extremely odd choices when determining what they consider a big story and what isn't - one day it'll be legitimately a big story, and the next day it's crap like the story linked above.
So two signs warning about bighorns are still up but no one has seen any for awhile. Okay, really, that's news? Are those spaces that the signs occupy needed for something else? Are we concerned with people wasting time looking or watching out for bighorns? Nope, according the paper it's all about the evils of man and society. They waste no time lamenting the "urban sprawl" that "may" have contributed to the lack of bighorn sightings. Why this is even a story? The paper must have thought it was a slow enough news day and most people wouldn't care that this occupied thier limited 'top story' real estate.
However, silly top stories notwithstanding, the biggest problem this paper has (apart from their slanted regular news) is their editorial page. It's so bad that it's even prompted local legistlators to do a quasi boycott, outright refusing to answer thier questions. I don't blame them, to be honest. The editorial staff seems to take glee in being an arm of local democrat party. At the end of the day the readers will decide whether to keep the AZ Star up and running. Untill then we will continue to point out why we deserve a better local paper.

Hate Radio: The History of Jon Justice

This is a special podcast - recorded off the air after the show on Monday. In it, I tell the full stories behind all the scandals, rumors, and misinformation that gets spread about me anytime there's an editorial, blog post, or news story featuring the show. Hear the Truth behind the rumors and speculation!
The really sad thing is that despite my best efforts in putting out all the proper info in it's context, it just won't matter to some. Truth be told I wish it would so that those who may have issues with me would tackle the opinions and take me on for those views. It would be much more interesting if those who don't like me would actually try and challenge me based off of what we talk about on a daily basis. Instead they either ignore me, which I fully endorse (if you don't like me or my show why would you listen?), or they attack me personally and leave anything of relevance out of the equation. But, we are mostly talking about liberals right? Any conservatives that may not like my show aren't going to bother with me, they can go listen to someone they do like. Liberals however would rather redirect the argument away from actual issue most of the time, and attack the personalities behind the issues.
This podcast was largely self serving on my part, which is why I chose to make it off air rather than during the show. I am proud of the work that I have done. Not just with 104.1 The Truth but also some of those rare moments during my rock years. It gets frustrating however when people attempt to discredit you with misinformation, rumors and outright lies. So now it's all on record for anyone to hear. I suppose some can just say I am lying, but that's something they have to deal with not me. I know the truth, it's all the truth. With liberty and sarcasm for all!

5th ANNUAL TUCSON POLICE FOUNDATION
Unsung Heroes Recognition Dinner

Saturday night I had the chance host the 5th Annual Unsung Heroes Dinner to benefit the Tucson Police Foundation. As I said on stage, this was one of those moments that shows what Tucson is all about. At one point, Rich Harper from the TPF asked that the officers of TPD stand up to be acknowledged. Only a handful of our cities finest stood up to a huge round of applause. I was a little surprised that more were not in attendance, then I realized that it was for a good reason. First of all this night was about them and for them, but it was also to raise dollars and support from those that are not TPD for TPF. Secondly, you could account for only a handful being there because the rest of our officers were in the field protecting our city. It was very humbling to be among people who have given so much time, money, and effort in supporting our brave men and women in uniform.
I get a lot of gratitude from public safety personnel for what I do on the radio, but Saturday night I realized that it takes more than words to truly make a difference in helping our first responders. It take dollars, it takes time, and it takes effort. From Jim Click to Raytheon, from Boy Scouts to philanthropists, from talk show hosts to elected officials, it's a combined effort that can fill the gap in numerous ways to help our TPD. I hope that they would invite me back again to host their wonderful event. It was amazing to see those unsung heroes receive their awards on behalf of all the other unsung heroes in the community fighting for what we love so much about Tucson: it's people.
I had the opportunity to run what I thought was a great idea by Councilwoman Shirley Scott. I suggested that, perhaps I could be able to write up citations on behalf of the city to collect money from stupid people who call the show. Since Law Enforcement can write tickets and charge people for doing stupid things, I should be able to do the same for people who say stupid things, right? Sadly, I do realize that being dumb isn't a punishable offense. But if it were we could afford to fix the budget, fund all of Rio Nuevo and law enforcement, and maybe even buy TPD a tank.
I also had a nice little chat with former AZ Star editorial editor Ann Brown - honestly! We had a great talk and she says hello. I told her she was missed and not just because I can't pick on her columns anymore...
Andrews random video of the day: It's Superbowl week, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really excited about this years matchup - it's rare when you actually get the 2 teams that had the best regular seasons meeting up in the big game. I moved here from Indianapolis, so I of course will be rooting for the Colts, but you have to love the Saints and what they mean to that town. No matter which team wins, I'll be happy for them - so I just hope we get an exciting game, and some fun watercooler chatter over the commercials the next day. I thought this week I'd feature some of the best Superbowl commercials of all time - if you have any suggestions, send them my way - andrew@1041thetruth.com. Here's an all-time classic, often considered one of the best commericals - not just Superbowl - ever:

Idle building downtown weighed as UA class space

There is something wrong here. When it comes to the question of what to do with this building, the coventional wisdom is to first give it up for $1 a year in rent, and if they can't find any tenants, then to try and put it up for sale. Is that back-asswards or is it just me?? I understand the importance of education and of having facilities to do the work required for students and research, but this building needs a TON of work. It's probably going to cost the UofA millions to make it suitable for use. All that aside, are we not in the middle of an economic recession? Why wouldn't we get every dollar we could, even if it is dirt cheap? And let's face it, once the UofA moves in it will never be anything else, even though they claimed they could sell it after 5 years. I've decided that I'm going to offer at least $100.00 a year in rent to see if Pima County will acceptr. On todays show we will take your suggestions on what we should with the property.

More schools require students to learn personal finance

Ironic that we were just talking about this very issue on Mondays show. As I have said on air, the most important thing I can teach my kids, apart from the importance of God and Family, is how to handle their finances. With so much money spent on useless social programs in public schools and so little emphasis put on personal finance, business, and real life economics, it's no wonder we are in the middle of a recession. I am a part of a generation that never learned the value at an early age of saving a buck. I had no respect for credit cards growing up. Sadly later in life I also fell into the trap (of my own doing) of buying a house when I was not in a firm stable position to do so.
We need to start actually training kids for what they will face in the real world. We need to quit teaching our kids that the most important thing they can do is public service. Sure public service can be a good a thing, but it's not going to pay the bills. At the same time we need to teach our kid all the different facets of personal finance. TUSD would be better severed spending the millions they do on the biased, dangerous "Ethnic Studies" programs on personal finance and responsibility courses. Maybe in the end a positive that can be taken from this recession is that people from grade school up will learn to balance their budgets better. Now if own our city council would do the same.

Bio/History of Jon Justice:

Born and raised in Southern California I attended private Christian Schools from 5th grade through High School. I worked at age 18 as a record store manager. Right around when I turned 21 I left retail to go work as a public real estate auctioneer and property inspector in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties. One day, just after being chased off the lawn of a house going into foreclosure by a very large toothed dog who obviously had not been fed for awhile, I heard a commercial for the Academy of Radio Broadcasting. The rest is, as they say....history.
After graduating from the ARB I started as an intern and weekend air talent for Riverside San Bernardino station KCXX in late '95. I then left in '98 joining John Michael at Tucson AZ Alternative Rock KFMA. While at KFMA the Jon and John Show went #1 with our core audience. With this new found fame I was able to convince a promotions intern that I was the coolest guy on the planet and made her my wife. Yes I married an intern and even after she figured out I wasn't that cool Melinda still stayed with me.
In 2000 I returned to KCXX to team up with my still good friend Dick for the Dick and Justice Show. After reaching new highs and lows with bits like "Homeless Survivor" and "Dog in a Hot Car", Dick And Justice went #1 and posted the highest morning show ratings on KCXX. During this time my wife gave birth to our first son Logan Wedge.
In 2003 Dick and I accepted a job as afternoon show for Atlanta's WKLS 96Rock. While achieving some moderate success and hosting a night show on the now defunct FM Talk Real Radio 105.3 we fell victim to a station-wide decline in performance due an on air incident that got the successful morning show fired for airing inappropriate content. Dick and I exited WKLS late in 2004, after which Dick left the radio industry to join CNN.
In December 2005 I joined Grand Rapids MI Active Rock WKLQ as host of the Justice and Jim show. Once again reaching the masses with new lows like the now famous "Dog Drowning Hoax" in which I tried to bring to light the dangers of children drowning in local pools and lakes. Needless to say management mistakenly silenced me after the bit reached critical mass being covered not only on all local news outlets but major cable networks as well. A bit which was done to help educate and a make statement about how people need to pay more attention to child dangers, ended up making me look like an animal hating shock jock. (Of which I am niether, despite what some now think of me locally). After surviving the "Dog Hoax" in late 2005 (I was not fired for that bit, again despite what has been said in online circles) I found myself hosting the show solo as "Justice in the Morning". . That was until my agent made a deal with the company I worked for to put a syndicated show on several of its stations-including mine.....yes, my agent at the time essentially put me out of work. While I hated to lose my job, I was glad to leave WKLQ.
After serving a brief non-compete I was asked to join the #1 station in the market Newsradio WOOD as APD and fill in talk show host. I was given the job of fill in hosting on the stations two #1 live local shows The Grand Rapids Morning News and Rick and Scott (Both shows I have the utmost respect for). Also I was honored to be working on air the week of President Gerald R. Ford's passing, providing Grand Rapids the only live local call in show for 6 hours. During this time Melinda and I welcomed the birth of our second son Kyle Elliott on December 12 2006.
Just after the first of 2007 NEWSRADIO WOOD 1300 launched The Show with Justice Saturday afternoons.
It is now with great pleasure that I can be back in Tucson Arizona. On August 13th 2007 I started as host of my show "The Jon Justice Show" on 104.1 The Truth Tucson's News FM.
My passion has always been talk radio and I am pleased to finally be able to make a career in radio doing talk radio.
I was raised in a Reformed Presbyterian Christian household. I am happy to carry these beliefs with me still today and to be able pass them along to my wife and children Logan Wedge and Kyle Elliott.
I believe:
-I am not better than you the listener, just lucky enough to have a microphone and you don't
-Republicans get it right most of the time
-Democrats get it wrong most of the time
-If you are a liberal that's alright, everyone can change
-We need more God and less government
-We need more honesty and less political correctness
-The Ten Commandments and the Constitution are not mere "suggestions"
-There is reason why the "War on Terror" is called a WAR
-Freedom and democracy don't happen without a fight and they don't happen over night
-If you think you know how war will play out, you're very confused.
-If you're upset about soldiers that die during war, how mad are you about the homeless guy downtown that starved to death last night, the roll over crash that killed 3, or the winter storm that leveled a home and killed a family.
Death happens and our soldiers are fighting for your right to live free.
-We will win the war in Iraq and the war on Terror, but not without the FIGHT
-The media reports what they think you want to hear and unfortunately most of us are too stupid to care
-The most important things in my life are God, my wife and children, my family and my Job
-My father is my mentor and best friend next to my wife and sons
-The most enjoyment I get from TV comes in the form of NASCAR racing, Star Wars movies on DVD, and 24 the TV Series
-If I want to laugh then Spinal Tap, Monty Python and Judd Apatow movies will fill the need
-Depeche Mode is the most underrated band ever
-Dale Jr drives better than you...go #88, go JR!
-Pizza is greatest meal on the planet
-If I need a drink an Orange AMP energy drink will do. If I need something with a little more kick, Captain Morgans and Diet Pepsi will do the trick.
