McCain Launches Spanish Web Site, Will Speak To La Raza

(The photo above made me laugh in light of this story, please take the meaning behind it no further than I just found it humorous)
Former speakers to the National Association of LaRaza include but are not limited to former president Bill Clinton, Karl Rove, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, then-Governor of Texas George W. Bush. Do I support all of those individuals? No, but they did all speak to this same group that John McCain will speak to. I also don't agree with what the NCLR stands for and I do believe that they pose a threat to this country because the their support of groups like MECHa. However, they do have a somewhat legitimate standing in our country as evidenced by the speakers who feel it is worth the risk of their political career to speak to the NCLR. Before we all go jumping off a cliff let me ask this question: Are you going to at least give John McCain the chance to speak and hear for yourself what he has to say before you rush to judgment on him? If you don't want to vote for McCain because he would take the time to speak to NCLR then that is your choice. However Barack Obama spoke to them as well. So I suppose you will now have to vote for no one or a third candidate still on the ballot. In my opinion if John McCain wants to win this election then he needs to reach out to the Hispanic base. Not pander to, but reach out to. In order to do that he needs to speak to the groups that they belong to and at this time that happens to be the NCLR. I wish that weren't the case, but the reality is he cannot win the election on the angry white folk vote alone. I trust that John McCain will secure the border (which is more than what Bush has done) but apart from that I am not holding my breath for him do anything comprehensive about the 12 million illegals in our country. It's called picking your battles. Suck it UP in 08! I know I am.
(Below is an email I received from a listener after they heard todays commentary on this subject. I do want to address something stated in the email. On the question of should candidates be speaking to the KKK, NAACP, Black Panthers NAMBLA, CAIR etc. We are not talking about those groups nor candidates speaking to those groups. It's John McCain speaking to the National Council of La Raza. When and if John McCain feels the need to address the KKK, NAMBLA etc. then we can talk about whether it is appropriate or not.)
Hi Jon,
I listen to your show pretty much every day and agree with most of what you say. However, I heard a promo this afternoon and could not believe my ears. You were talking about Juan McCain speaking with La Raza and it sounded like you were excusing his behavior (please let me know if I mis-heard). Following this logic, we would expect all of the candidates to also meet with the KKK, NAACP, Black Panthers, and all the other racist organizations. (They probably have already met with the NAACP and Black Panthers, but certainly not the KKK.) Just because members of a group may be voters, it does not mean that a candidate must meet with them. Should McCain now set up a speaking engagement with NAMBLA, and CAIR just because there are voters in those organizations?
I really do like your show, but no matter what you say I will still not vote for Juan (and I'd rather die a fiery, painful death than vote for Hitlery or Osama). I've had enough of this lesser of two evils garbage and am not going to waste my time.
That said, I still think you are the best talk show host in Tucson so keep up the good work on everything else. :-)
Take care,
13 More Things Your Auto Mechanic Won't Tell You

Since I am pretty certain my 1991 Honda Accord is about to cost me a lot of money (The wheels are beginning to wobble when I brake and now also when the car starts rolling. I don't think that is a good sign). I thought some of you might find this article of interest. I seriously need to take that caller up on her offer to drive around her HYBRID for a few days. They are ugly but at least there is not an immediate risk of the wheels falling off.
