Sought: Wal-Mart shoppers who trampled NY worker

So who can you blame in this situation? Do you blame Walmart for not creating a line or adding extra security? This didn't happen all over the country and while I am sure they expected a crowd who could have reasonably expected this? Do you blame the crowd and look at the video to see who did the most trampling? How do you decide who was worse? Sure, one person may have stepped on the person who fell, but who is to say that person wasn't pushed by the guy behind him who was pushed by the mom with the family of three behind him? In my opinion, there should be no charges apart from the normal employee on the job accident investigation and employer liability that would always take place. If we talk about this story as anything other than a freak horrible accident, it should be talked about as means to demonstrate how far we have fallen in our society. That the chance of a bargain would illicit this type of behavior. It's also a classic example of just how sinful we as humans are, The next time we get the flowery op-ed article talking about 'Peace on Earth, fairness, why can't we all just get along' nonsense, just remember of this story. 'Peace On Earth' goes out the window in the face of slashed prices on flat screens.
a

Sometimes not spending or cutting a budget is a good thing. You wouldn't know this from the papers however. Sometimes it's not always a good thing to add money to help an endeavour in trouble even in a crisis. Sometimes the tough choice of cutting funding is the wise choice and the best choice. It may be hard and tough for a while, but sometimes it's the the best way to improve a situation. Solutions are sometimes found thru adversity. Money isn't always the answer. So to say that the cutting of the school funding is short-sighted, maybe it's actually an attempt to see beyond today knowing that the choice, while hard right now, is best for the future and the children.
Our Opinion: By tunnel or ladder, border fences always get crossed

The combination of law enforcement and border security is key and with that I would agree. Where they miss the boat is that you can't do one without the other. The incentive needs to be taken away I.E. full enforcement of our immigration laws, deportation of illegals when a discovery is made, along with a fence and the presence of military/national guard or otherwise. This idea that just because they cut holes or dig tunnels we should stop border enforcement or that because isn't hasn't worked perfectly we should give up is nothing more than a cop out. The excuse that people die crossing in the desert is no excuse. It's tragic but they made the choice. If someone keeps trying to break into my house I don't just give up and let them come in. If they get injured breaking in it's their responsibility not mine and it's no excuse for their breaking of the law.
Andrew's random video for Monday: I'm getting in the Christmas spirit - we put up the tree and decorated the house over the weekend and had a lot of fun in the process. I admit - I'm a huge sucker for Bing Crosby Christmas tunes - I love the crooner versions of the classics... and this is one of my favorite versions of one of my favorite Christmas songs. Enjoy!

Local stores hang out sign: Buy here

Personally I think it's silly to have a call to buy "local" when the reality is that if you shop in Tucson, no matter location, you are shopping local. Every business in town, retail chain or other wise has employees to pay, tax revenue to pull in and contribute to our local economy. One could actually argue that it would be much worse for Tucson to see a big retail outlet go under than the local Five and Dime. However in the spirit of our city council declaring it "Buy from the little guy" day let me offer that little guy a word of advice. When people visit you who normally don't today it would be wise to give them a reason to come back. The last thing the little guy wants is Joe the consumer to shop at his store only to end up at a retail chain and see the gifts he bought at the little priced much cheaper. No one is heading out today or this weekend thinking "Gee were can I get the friendliest customer service and great atmosphere ", Okay maybe the editorial staff at the Star and Citizen might be thinking that, but normal people are not. Normal people are thinking "Who is going to get me the best price for my holiday shopping". If we really want to help the little guy in town and I do think the little guy is important . After all Walmart was a little guy once too. Then we need to not only tell people in Tucson to visit them, but we need to tell those businesses not to blow the opportunity. Plus why doesn't the city council step up and help the the little guy do business by making easier for them to do business. Limit some of the red tape needed to get actually conduct business and maybe the little guy would have a better opportunity to compete.
Plot to smuggle 13 immigrants revealed in fake 'Bud' van

In the middle of the current terrorist attack in India, while we are hearing warning of a possible Al Qaeda attack during the presidential transition over the holidays, we get another grim reminder of the dangers of illegal immigration. While most of the talk on the show is about the law breaking of those who come across our borders illegally and the cost to the tax payer we cannot discount those who come illegally to do harm. The lengths and creativity of those who wish to come into our country should never be taken likely. This fake Bud van could have been filled with anyone. It could have been people looking for work, to better their lives. It could have been filled with drug smugglers. It could have been filled with a family. It could have been filled with terrorists and any of these people could have come from anywhere. The open border crowd wants to paint a picture that everyone coming in illegally is here to do good and better themselves. It's a lie that costs us millions of dollars and yes even lives of US citizens. Because anyone, with any intention, from anywhere could break in into our country and we have no real way of knowing, because of this the issue of what to do on our border is clear and there is no debate. We must seal our border by any means necessary, wall, virtual fence, National Guard, military etc. and we must enforce our immigration laws to their maximum extent. We cannot afford an "I told you so" scenario wherein those who would cause harm to american citizens will have come from our porous borders. We can do something it just takes the public speaking out and the will and leadership to get it done.

Despite Bells and Whistles, 'Office of President-Elect' Holds No Authority

Is anyone else just a slightly bit perplexed that we seem to being hearing a lot more from the President-Elect (who currently holds no power) than we are from the actual President himself? Then again one would have to be paying attention to the mainstream media right now to even notice that the "Office of the the President-Elect" has been holding nearly daily meetings explaining how they currently have no power. I am just glad Fox News decided to call out the almost juvenile silliness of the "Office of the President-Elect Office." The signs for the office have that SNL-parody feel to them. Here are some of the finer moments of the article:
But the "Office of the President-Elect," while critical in building the future government, has no official power -- which Obama himself acknowledged during his victory speech in Chicago on Election Night.
"It is an office -- it's just a quasi-government office for planning the takeover of the government," said Stephen J. Wayne, a professor at Georgetown University's department of government.
Trying to not get too ahead of ourselves, which President-Elect Obama has failed to do, I will say that even though I am very cautious about the Obama presidency it is cool to see someone, anyone acting in a leadership role right now. Sadly, its the guy whose polices I don't agree with and has zero power at the moment, and isn't even a senator any longer. Oh yeah one more thing, if you have seen any of the press conferences have you also heard Obama being referred to as 'Mr President Elect?' Has that ever happened before?
Red light cameras, radar pull in $1.9M in fines

So how much money was actually made for the city out of the radar/red light camera enforcement after writing 1.9 million in fines? A grand total of 46K. Here comes the problem as the article states that this is about getting the traffic incidents down not revenue. First of all I don't believe that for a second, for the police it might be, but for our local government it is all about the dollars. The fact that they only pulled in 46K and less people are being fined only means one of a few scenarios will happen. Either A) The cameras and radar enforcement will begin to lose money, which I don't see the local officials let happen B) They end up having to find money elsewhere by raising taxes, which still leaves the issue of less money because of people slowing down and not running lights or C) and most likely, they end up spending more money to put up more cameras and radar vans to increase the number of fines. Sooner or later we end up just like Phoenix but without the freeways meaning cameras will be everywhere.

Our Opinion: Environment top priority of Arizonans

This headlines reads how the Iraq War withdrawal polls used to. During the worst of times of the Iraq War polls used to be released stating that over 70% of the American public wanted the troops to leave Iraq. What the polls failed to mention was that they never set conditions. A majority of the people were simply asked "Would you like to see the troops leave Iraq?" Of course a majority of people said "yes." Yet what the polled failed to ask was "How would you like them to leave? Early, leaving the Iraqis to fend for themselves or after security is reached and knowing the Iraqis can enforce security?" The same can be said for "Environment top priority of Arizonans," but at what cost? Are you talking about the greenhouse gas emission cutting that will result in higher electric bills and possible higher taxes to offset the added expense of going green? Or are you talking about a conservative approach that means taking care of the environment but not at the loss of personal freedom and at the expense of the tax payer? Most of the green plans are based off false global warming data which in turn creates a climate for expensive green initiatives that do nothing but waste money and have no real environment impact. Take a look at this little blog from the Tucson Citizen: Global warming forecasts not so hot? The data just isn't there and what is there is so skewed that many just accept it rather than question it. Yes Tucsonans care about the environment, but that also includes those legislators up in Phoenix. But they also know that right now the economy is a bigger priority and that is where the headline above is wrong again. It maybe a top priority, but it is not the top priority. Only a handful of people buy into the complete Al Gore green agenda. The rest of Arizona just wants to be able to trust our state government to do the right thing.
Father 'appalled' by virtual audience to son's webcam suicide, calls for Internet regulation

This is not the first internet suicide and it certainly won't be last. This one just happened to occur in front of an audience. And while I can certainly understand the grief this father must feel, calls for internet regulation won't help, won't get his son back and won't keep this from happening again. I don't blame any internet voyeur for for this guys death. How many people thought it was staged? How many people actually believe most of the You Tube videos they see anyhow? How many people called this suicide fake even after this guy was dead. Internet regulation is not the answer. We live in a world of instant gratification with a generation obsessed with getting their 15 minutes of fame. Sometimes it's harmless and other times it results in a tragedy like this. We as parents have to do a better job teaching our children to be open with their problems and that fame is not the end all be all.

Here's a look at all the empty asphalt reserved for 'alternative fuel' vehicles at the Reid Park Zoo... oh the heat island effect was through the roof!
Three Wishes

I will probably come off like a total grinch on this but I think something needs to be said. It would seem the local papers have been in overdrive asking for people to help local charities. It is the holiday season, a time for giving and times are obviously tough for a lot of people and non-profits are included in this. However there are a few issues in regards to the rash of "Help your fellow man" articles that must be addressed. First of all where is the call to action on this gift giving throughout the rest of the year? Suddenly the holidays roll around and the average person who wants to go out and buy gifts for friends and family becomes part of the grand commercialization of Christmas according to the papers. We get articles and op-eds telling us not to waste money on buying gifts but to donate to charities. Now there isn't anything "wrong" with this technically, however take a look at the non-profits listed in this article and you tell me which ones just don't belong. I'll give my favorite: "The International Dark Skies Association" I understand the need to list all the non-profits, but in the face of people being told to give this holiday season in light of the economy it seems more than just a little ridiculous that they would even consider an organization that deals with "light pollution!" Again, I do understand the need to include everyone, but this is getting more than a little silly. Which brings me to my next point. Personally while many of these groups do good work and hopefully many people will donate this year, there is a huge amount of people who should also be included in the "exclude your family, give to the needy instead" calls to action by the local media. I am talking about our local law enforcement, firefighters and military families. Where is the call to action to help our understaffed and underfunded police? Where is the call to donate to help families who spouses are serving overseas and won't see them this holiday season? Thankfully there are some very good groups out there like Waiting Warriors, Tucson Community Cares, and the Tucson Police Foundation who are looking to help this holiday season and more importantly, all year long. I say if you can give this year, give to those near and dear to you. And if you have some left over to give, then please consider our military families and first responders.
Merry Fitzmas! It's the Obama Claus ornament

Speaking of giving please do yourself a personal favor and avoid buying, even for your most socialist liberal friends, the "Yes We Can, Have a Merry Christmas" Fitz ornament. I used to think that Tucsons most glaring example of rampant liberalism was the 4th Av Tucson Trolley, but Fitzsimmons is running a close second. It's not enough that we get constant barrage of wordy, self-aggrandizing, left leaning, pompous, and annoying cartoons in the paper day after day, now you have liberalism to hang on your tree! It's the arrogant elitism that grates like nails on a chalk board to me. The idea the we can now have a good Christmas because Obama won the election is bad enough. But its almost an ironic sad commentary that just says to me that many of these people think that Obama is more important than Jesus. But wait...we also get a Sarah Palin ornament too! Again this just shows how threatened the left continues to be of her. In the end the jokes on the left to be honest. Can you even for second imagine what a Christmas part would be like for a person who actually bought one of these ornaments? Not to mention I thought that according to the papers we weren't supposed to spend our money on meaningless gifts this year and only give it to the needy? The needy I suppose in this instance is the AZ Star who continues to lose readers. Too bad they don't heed their own advice and give the money from the profits to a local charity.

Ariz. GOP would gain if Napolitano gets Obama post

Maybe my 'Open Letter' to Napolitano was actually taken seriously? This is a blessing and minor curse at this point. Let me focus on the negative aspect of this move: Napolitano being in charge of Homeland Security. It really comes down to expectations. If your expectation was that something is going to get done to stop the flow of illegal aliens across our border by the Obama Administration then you are probably going to be looking at having your hopes dashed. If you are like me and have no expectation at all of the Obama administration and certainly not border security then this might even considered a minor bonus as much as a minor negative. The good news is that Janet at the very least knows the problems that we face probably better than any other governor. Sadly because she is a Democrat we should probably not expect any comprehensive action as far as sealing the border is concerned. At least she can provide good insight so that people will hopefully make better informed , if still bad, decisions. Thats about all I can hope for under President Obama.
On the the plus side we get a majority GOP control in the AZ state government, so we would have that going for us. Just as long as the GOP power sticks to their staunch conservative guns and right now we have no reason to believe they won't...for now.
Kimble: County Democrats missing at polls

Even after all those Obama bumper stickers around town, Dems still didn't show up in the masses that the left would have hoped. That is not to say they still didn't do well, but it does provide a ray of sunshine for future elections that we can make real positive changes locally. The GOP busted their collectives butts and I saw that first hand. However, we must get back to our conservative roots and drive that message home starting now. We have brand new city council elections next year. We have a chance to change power in Congress in two years. We need to start working hard now to motivate the public in these troubled times, that are only going to get worse. Now is not the time to look at how to reach across the aisle, but to reach across the street, to friends and neighbors. We need to embrace the spirit of community while watching out for one another and make sure that when we all go back to the polls that people really understand the issues and people they are voting for and look beyond the party lines for what is best for our city.

Beaudry RV Co. files for Chapter 11

We have been hearing the Big 3 automakers shouting that 'Armageddon' is just around the corner if they don't get a bailout to the tune of 25 Billion. They say that the entire economy will suffer massive job loss and uncertainty. They say that they just don't have confidence that they will survive filing bankruptcy. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Give us our money! Yet look locally and here we have a company that has been serving Tucson for decades filing Chapter 11. Did they beg for bailout? Did that say the local community would suffer an economic meltdown? Nope they didn't and as a matter of fact they said it would be business as usual and that they would emerge stronger in the end. The automakers in the US see a chance to literally bail themselves out of their failing ways, plain and simple. They don't want to change and are being somewhat held hostage by the unions. Sometimes, many times, failure is a good thing. Failure for the Big 3 would probably be the best thing for them. Even though we really don't even know if they would fail as they could just end up doing what Beaudry RV did. They simply don't want to accept the truth that they have to make tough choices and change their business habits. Maybe the damage is already done in that the 700 billion bailout has been approved and maybe once Obama gets in office the Dems will just give them their money. At the very least many people who voted for the Dems and Obama are suddenly and rapidly realizing that while they believe Bush was bad, the coming storm maybe even worse.
Stanton: Giving season
In belt-tightening times: • hem in waste • outfit needy, charities • don good will

If it wasn't for the righteous indignation strewn throughout the article this might have actually been a fairly useful opinion piece. Sadly Billie Stanton seem so full of her own self worth that she can't help but heap the negativity towards the standard holiday gift giving fare that by the end I am more annoyed than feeling like I want to help out any local charity. The question I have is, do any of these individuals practice that which they preach? Are they going and giving time or anything else to these charities? Maybe they are and are just don't feel the need to share their personal charitable acts towards their fellow man or woman. Personally I feel like if you want to give then give. If you don't want to give then by all means you do not have to. Also, not giving does not make you a bad person. Buying gifts for family and relatives and not giving donations or time to charities also doesn't make you a bad person. However many, like the writer of this piece, seem to miss that point and sadly the very people she is trying to reach just get annoyed as I did. Which makes me wonder, did she really want to inspire people to give to the needy this holiday season? Or was this simply an attempt for her to satisfy her own self righteous desire to express how wonderful she thinks she is by pointing out what she thinks people should do.

Last 2 defendants in Tucson Panda Express hiring case sentenced
Last 2 of 'Panda Express 11' sentenced to time served

Let me now say what the papers never will and that the headline should have been "Last 2 of the Illegal Aliens working for Panda Express sentenced and now should be deported." Enough is enough and it goes against the very sovereignty of this country if these law breakers are not deported. Most of us have to abide by the laws of this country and if we don't we face very little leeway in terms of judgment of the law. Excuses of family hardship don't work for those that are convicted of DUI or robbery. Yet we are told by appointed legal defenders like Isabel Garcia that these illegal aliens who broke the law should be given leniency because somehow their ignorance of the law is a justifiable excuse. We are told by these same people that if only the laws were different that they wouldn't be breaking them. It's such a blatant in your face bias that it is almost genius in its execution. It's as if to say something so ridiculous with such conviction that most simple minded followers of their open border agenda are compelled to just nod along in agreement. Then you get other lawyers like Margo Cowan who proclaim that it is all the governments fault for not passing comprehensive immigration reform. The question is what kind of reform do you want as it relates to your argument? Reform that says you can create fake IDs without prosecution or reform that says illegals can work even though they have no respect for the rule of law? Lastly, from what I know a majority of these illegals working for Panda Express were brought here to America by their parents and as some have said "didn't make a choice to come here illegally." All this shows is the lack of personal responsibility shown by their parents for coming here illegally, passed onto the children who continued to break the law by creating fake IDs and then right on up to the lawyers who represent them who say they are victims of these United States and did nothing wrong. And you wonder why we have such a problem with illegal immigration in this country.
Downtown development here painfully static
Unlike Tucson, Berlin is improving areas at a frenetic pace

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Welcome to Tuesdays viewing of the Never-Ending Parade of Stupid. I have absolutely no problem pointing out how painfully awful our local papers are and this article is just another nail in the journalism coffin of our Tucson Newspapers. The only real relevant piece of information is found within the title. The article reads like a kid in junior High writing his first assignment for the school paper. "Hey everyone did you know that Berlin is really far away? And even though it's like in another country and stuff it is a city like Tucson! Amazing! They have buildings too! But, everything there seems newer, which is very bad for poor Tucson." As I read this article I kept waiting for the reasons why Berlin is thriving and Tucson's downtown is a dead undeveloped sad excuse for a downtown. I was waiting for the details of an abused Rio Nuevo Project. I was hoping for the countless examples of how our City Council had stalled or stopped worthy downtown development. I couldn't wait to read how hard it is for businesses to come in and set up shop downtown because of all the red tape. But alas, I got to the end and just wanted to bang my head against my monitor as I realized that I had once again over estimated the quality that the Tucson Citizen puts out. I really should have known better since the author of this article is the same person who championed the downtown national Park(ING) Day. By the way, Tucson Citizen, while you failed to talk about anything relevant as to downtown and it's underdevelopment, I went ahead and did your job for you. You're Welcome.

Bio/History of Jon Justice:

Born and raised in Southern California I attended private Christian Schools from 5th grade through High School. I worked at age 18 as a record store manager. Right around when I turned 21 I left retail to go work as a public real estate auctioneer and property inspector in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties. One day, just after being chased off the lawn of a house going into foreclosure by a very large toothed dog who obviously had not been fed for awhile, I heard a commercial for the Academy of Radio Broadcasting. The rest is, as they say....history.
After graduating from the ARB I started as an intern and weekend air talent for Riverside San Bernardino station KCXX in late '95. I then left in '98 joining John Michael at Tucson AZ Alternative Rock KFMA. While at KFMA the Jon and John Show went #1 with our core audience. With this new found fame I was able to convince a promotions intern that I was the coolest guy on the planet and made her my wife. Yes I married an intern and even after she figured out I wasn't that cool Melinda still stayed with me.
In 2000 I returned to KCXX to team up with my still good friend Dick for the Dick and Justice Show. After reaching new highs and lows with bits like "Homeless Survivor" and "Dog in a Hot Car", Dick And Justice went #1 and posted the highest morning show ratings on KCXX. During this time my wife gave birth to our first son Logan Wedge.
In 2003 Dick and I accepted a job as afternoon show for Atlanta's WKLS 96Rock. While achieving some moderate success and hosting a night show on the now defunct FM Talk Real Radio 105.3 we fell victim to a station-wide decline in performance due an on air incident that got the successful morning show fired for airing inappropriate content. Dick and I exited WKLS late in 2004, after which Dick left the radio industry to join CNN.
In December 2005 I joined Grand Rapids MI Active Rock WKLQ as host of the Justice and Jim show. Once again reaching the masses with new lows like the now famous "Dog Drowning Hoax" in which I tried to bring to light the dangers of children drowning in local pools and lakes. Needless to say management mistakenly silenced me after the bit reached critical mass being covered not only on all local news outlets but major cable networks as well. A bit which was done to help educate and a make statement about how people need to pay more attention to child dangers, ended up making me look like an animal hating shock jock. (Of which I am niether, despite what some now think of me locally). After surviving the "Dog Hoax" in late 2005 (I was not fired for that bit, again despite what has been said in online circles) I found myself hosting the show solo as "Justice in the Morning". . That was until my agent made a deal with the company I worked for to put a syndicated show on several of its stations-including mine.....yes, my agent at the time essentially put me out of work. While I hated to lose my job, I was glad to leave WKLQ.
After serving a brief non-compete I was asked to join the #1 station in the market Newsradio WOOD as APD and fill in talk show host. I was given the job of fill in hosting on the stations two #1 live local shows The Grand Rapids Morning News and Rick and Scott (Both shows I have the utmost respect for). Also I was honored to be working on air the week of President Gerald R. Ford's passing, providing Grand Rapids the only live local call in show for 6 hours. During this time Melinda and I welcomed the birth of our second son Kyle Elliott on December 12 2006.
Just after the first of 2007 NEWSRADIO WOOD 1300 launched The Show with Justice Saturday afternoons.
It is now with great pleasure that I can be back in Tucson Arizona. On August 13th 2007 I started as host of my show "The Jon Justice Show" on 104.1 The Truth Tucson's News FM.
My passion has always been talk radio and I am pleased to finally be able to make a career in radio doing talk radio.
I was raised in a Reformed Presbyterian Christian household. I am happy to carry these beliefs with me still today and to be able pass them along to my wife and children Logan Wedge and Kyle Elliott.
I believe:
-I am not better than you the listener, just lucky enough to have a microphone and you don't
-Republicans get it right most of the time
-Democrats get it wrong most of the time
-If you are a liberal that's alright, everyone can change
-We need more God and less government
-We need more honesty and less political correctness
-The Ten Commandments and the Constitution are not mere "suggestions"
-There is reason why the "War on Terror" is called a WAR
-Freedom and democracy don't happen without a fight and they don't happen over night
-If you think you know how war will play out, you're very confused.
-If you're upset about soldiers that die during war, how mad are you about the homeless guy downtown that starved to death last night, the roll over crash that killed 3, or the winter storm that leveled a home and killed a family.
Death happens and our soldiers are fighting for your right to live free.
-We will win the war in Iraq and the war on Terror, but not without the FIGHT
-The media reports what they think you want to hear and unfortunately most of us are too stupid to care
