TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - You don't have to travel far to run into construction signs in Downtown Tucson.
It's been several months since it began and according to project engineer, Jesse Gutierrez, the Tucson Modern Streetcar project is right on track.
"Just over 50 percent of the time and over 50 percent completion, so we're on time with the project right now," he said.
One of the areas completed just in time was 4th Avenue for the Winter Street Fair, which some locals are happy about.
Others hope the fair will help bring back the crowds that stayed away during construction.
"I feel bad for a lot of the people that own businesses down here because I don't think they were compensated for what they lost," said Greg Gaskey, a Tucson resident.
But don't get too excited, 4th Avenue isn't completely construction free, just yet.
"The major portion of the fourth avenue in terms of construction is done. There's only the overhead wire and some poles to be put up," said Gutierrez.
Construction has moved a few blocks over to the intersection of Cushing Street and Granada Avenue, where tracks are being put down.
