TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Richard Mendoza Jr. had previously been charged with two counts of first degree burglary and six counts of prohibited possessor in relation to the shooting of Sgt. Robert Carpenter on Nov. 18, 2012.
In a news release, Sgt. Maria Hawke said that after reviewing the case with prosecutors, information relating specifically to the shooting was presented to the Pima County Grand Jury in early February to seek Mendoza's indictment for aggravated assault.
A true bill was returned for the additional charges of two counts of aggravated assault; aggravated assault with serious injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felony offenses. Mendoza remains in custody at the Pima County Jail.
