Airmen help with midvale park cleanup

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - While many of us were sleeping early this morning, about 100 volunteers were working hard to clean up Santa Cruz River Park in Midvale.
The Midvale Park Neighborhood Association usually does the job on their own, but today, they had some special volunteers.
The 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base teamed up with other volunteers to pick up trash, paint over graffiti and pick out weeds from the desert floor of River Park.
Joe Miller is president of the Midvale Park Neighborhood Association, and he says he cannot say thank you enough to all of the airmen who went out of their way today.
"One of the things that really inspires me to come out every weekend is that our soldiers are around the world protecting my family, and I really appreciate that, " Joe said. "And for those soldiers to actually come to my community and help us out, that's just remarkable."
Joe and other association members clean up a different Midvale park every Saturday.
Most of the supplies are donated to the group, and today, McDonald's even brought the volunteers apples.
